Why modern men are so feminine? Is it possible to find a cause of this?
Explicit male fascination with femininity is as old as the hills, but who would have ever thought that a widely disscused problem of nowadays would become a fashion trend?
At all times, both men and women have their roles, their distinctive features. Man and woman have always been opposites: the fragile, thin, beautiful women and strong, courageous, handsome men. But what is happening in the world right now, a push towards a whole new way of seeing men gradually creates a new era.
Usually people mistakenly think feminine men are gay but that’s not necessarily the case, especially now. Changes, that are taking place in our minds and bodies, they have a much stronger impact on our state and appearance, than all the trappings that we use in everyday life.
It was found that the male chromosome, Y-chromosome, due to which, in essence, male have their faces, has a tendency to reduce. Psychologists from the United States created a theory of androgyny. Its authors (Sandra Bem and others) claim that we have to be ready for androgynous (hermaphroditic) society, where there will be no difference between men and women either in apearence, nor in the behavior or psychology. There will remain only purely physiological and morphological differences, and even those, according to these theory, will be gradually smoothed out. This conclusions are based on the analysis of social dynamics in recent decades. Alternatives of social development are as follows: either we keep the courage and feminine culture, or we will live in a society of androgyny.
This has made a big influence on Fashion today . Especially the growing necessity to change something in an encrusted men's fashion sparked a surge of original trends. Starting from new tendencies of street-style, up to the latest men's collection of Givenchy, Comme Des Garçons, Romain Kremer etc, which actively involve make-up, skirts and super tight pants, that resemble the tights.
Such changes couldn't leave women indifferent, and as consequence we observe the web forums filled with puzzled women. Some of them are wondering why suddenly they started to like effaminate men, some of them are complaining about their boyfriends, who began to show their feminine traits, as well as to include women's atributes in their everyday look. The less "man" is a man, the more woman is in perplexity. And since the nature is inclined to harmony, women are becoming more masculine.
True female beauty, which was drewn by artists, sang by singers, and described by authors in million metaphors, literally disappeared from the catwalks. Anorexic, without emotions and forms, with the stern look in the crowd of photographers, today models do not radiate that womanhood, which we are accustomed to. But such changes inspire designers.
Clear example was a fashion show of GianFranco Ferre for Women in
2007, where designer was playing with genders. It became a real sensation, when Danila Polyakov, a frankly feminine male model, opened the show, whereas a popular lesbian singer Skin from band "Skunk Anansie" was the one, who closed it. Next boom was made by Andrej Pejic- a male model, who is not restricted by any gender barriers. He appeared in many runway shows, both femmes and hommes.

In pursuit of the answer, it's possible to adress to history, looking at the time line, and going back to earlier trends. 1960's were marked by Hippie movement, which was the turning point. After, in 70's we watched how music industry was embedding in overall tendencies. Such musicians as Boy George, Prince, Marilyn Manson and Michael Jackson were breaking frames of normality with their cross gender looks up to 80's, where so-called "pretty" boybands like "Backstreet Boys", "Take That" and "Nsync" appeared. This was followed by a "Leo Mania", the main figure of which was Leonardo DiCaprio with his skinny, womanlike look.
Now many people swallow all news about approaching end of the world with a horror, trying to understand theories and counting quantity of earthquakes and any other disasters lately. Someone speaks about solar flare, which will wipe out everything, someone is assured, what we will be visited by alients from other planet, but who knows, what if such insignificant, apparently, changes in humanity will lead to more pernicious consequences?
